In a months time Island in the Sun will open inside a hangar-like space at Ystadsgatan 53H in Malmö.

Sommarscen Malmö has invited Lilith Performance Studios artistic directors Elin Lundgren and Petter Pettersson to make a new large scale performance for the summer audience in Malmö.
We are thrilled and working full on to make a lot of hoods and installing a lot of sand:)

The desire for a better world, a better place, where we can be together and feel real togetherness, is the starting point of Elin Lundgren and Petter Petterson’s new performance – Island in the Sun. Inside a hangar-like space the audience are invited to a big party place on an island of sand, to be part of an unpredictable social context.

Lundgren and Pettersson have worked in different forms of visual- and performing arts since 1999, they are the founders of the acclaimed Lilith Performance Studio in Malmo. With Island in the Sun they do their largest collaboration ever.

In works that touches upon alienation, violence and failures they accumulate their pieces like living pictures. An absurd raw humor encounters a bare documentary narration. Lundgren and Pettersson’s intention is obviously political but without pointing out a certain direction. Their common interest lies in the warped and unfulfilled. Both throw light upon universal questions about loss and sorrow in their respective artistry.

Save the dates! 4-7 August 2016
Opening hours: 19:00 – 22:00 (last admission 21:00)
The audience is free to come and go as desired during opening hours.
Address: Ystadsgatan 53 H

Lilith Performance Studio presented Modern Lives – a new performance by the Finnish/Israeli artist Dafna Maimon.

March 10-12 & 17-19, 2016

Modern Lives draws its starting point from the life of a real person; the artist’s mother Ulrica Maimon, who in the early 2000s, created an alter ego for herself, the 1860s goldsmith’s widow Mrs. Gyllendaal Af Berntas. Mrs. Gyllendaal moved in to Maimon’s apartment, which was then furnished in a period-correct style. Throughout the years, Gyllendaal’s biography developed, along with her wardrobe and everyday tasks. Within the home, even family, friends and acquaintances participate in the roleplay.

At Lilith Performance Studio a full-size domestic arena has been built up for the alter ego Mrs. Gyllendaal. The widow inhabits the house together, with her doppelgängers, and her staff. This performative space becomes a construction site for the self, where the self can be seen as a multi-layered, fluxuating entity; an emotional landscape in motion. We step into the afterlife of trauma, where repetitive distorted fantasies form a surreal and melancholic world where its inhabitants echo themselves as prisoners of their own condition.

”In Modern Lives, it is so strong that it made the time freeze. The performance is a protracted moment where the anxiety wheel finally has stopped spinning, where it is possible to breathe and reasonably bearable to live.”

”As always characterized Lilith’s productions of perfection down to the smallest detail. The walled kitchen – range plastered surface, wallpaper, door handles, button boxes as widows sitting and roots in. But what particularly impresses this time are the actors and the directing. The lines are uttered with obvious and eerie presence. The interaction between the actors and to the audience feel natural, despite the surreal context.
Direction od Performace is nothing to be rewarded with some gold masks, Thalia Prize or other theater awards. Nevertheless, there are some behind the scenes at Lilith who can squeeze gold from the actors and extras ”

Tor Billgren SDS 11/3

What a plan is a journey through time is also a visit to another human being staged imagination.
But there are several dimensions to this work. The relativity of time is emphasized. Likewise, the multiplied editions of the place and characters are seen as an allusion to Strindberg’s ”A Dream Play” though also a interpretation of quantum physics theory of parallel universes. A thoughtful and brilliant performances, will be my final review ”
