The world’s first and only performance studio for visual art performance turned 10 years in the fall 2017.
Since the inception in 2007, Lilith Performance Studio has created over 50 large-scale solo commissions and been engaged in numerous inspiring collaborations and curator missions worldwide.
Lilith celebrated this with a series of unique dinner performances by 5 beloved artists from Lilith’s past.
YOU ARE INVITED – The Gateway by the Canadian artist Myriam Laplante on October 12-14 was the second performance of Lilith’s anniversary series.
In The Gateway, the guests are invited to step into a futuristic atmosphere where the perception of time is warped.
An unfamiliar visitor, an entity from a parallel universe enters our space-time universe.
Does this mysterious extraneous presence come from light years away or from within us? Who is the intruder? Who examines who?
Laplante’s work is cynical and absurd, melancholic and disorienting. In her performances, installations, sculptures and photographs,
she stages raw, biting, sometimes stern enactments that emanate from a bizarre and fantastic imagery.
In her monumental performance The Night Watch at Lilith 2013, synchronous perceptions were combined with uncanny staged events.
From a timeless office, a night watch monitored a parallel ongoing operation through a surveillance monitor where four cameras recorded
experimental events happening somewhere else. The viewers were invited to walk through a secret passage into the experiment,
in an altered reality.
