Date: September 19th – 21st, 2008
Performances by: Jenny Grönvall, Mathias Kristersson, Emma Pilipon
Alt_Cph, Copenhagen’s Alternative Art Fair, is a platform for artist-run spaces and initiatives. During three days, Lilith Performance Studio introduced the Danish public to Lilith Performance Studio’s work and showed DVD documentations from previous performances produced at the studio since the start in January 2007. In addition, Lilith Performance Studio presented three young emerging artists from Malmö, Sweden, as a part of Alt_Cph 2008 program.
Mr. Meese und die Liede des Herzens; Peggy-Sue #42
Born 1973 in Finland, lives and works in Malmö.
At Alt_Cph 2008, she was presented a new character, Mr. Meese (a long-haired figure with a bearded face, military pants, a black t-shirt, and black boots). S/he entered with a cardboard version of Peggy-Sue ( a former alter ego of Grönvall) under one arm and a guitar under the other. With a thick German accent, s/he sang a song about the woman of his dreams, Peggy-Sue. Mr. Meese preached her/his manifest The Dictatorship of Peggy – Sue with the consensus – that art is PEGGY-SUE.
Every time I open my mouth water comes out. It makes it difficult for me to speak.
Born 1979 in Sweden, lives and works in MalmöAt Alt_Cph 2008, Kristersson, alone on stage, took a sip of water and introduced himself as – I’m an artist. If you have any questions, you can ask me now and I will answer them as honest and correct as possible. The audience asked questions that Kristersson answered truthfully while water was pouring down on his chin. The water impeded him to speak clearly and made his white t-shirt see-through.
Born 1977 in Buggeryd, Sweden, lives and works in Malmö.
In ordinary clothes, a jumper and a pair of jeans, Pilipon entered Alt_Cph’s small stage. She turned on a DVD and picked up the dumbbells, and began to workout while miming to the famous Aria Boheme from Carmen. As the performance proceeded, the strain of the action in her face became more noticeable. It evoked a strong sense of intimacy from the intensified miming to the blasting music that penetrated the space.
