The world’s first and only performance studio for visual art performance turned 10 years in the fall 2017.
Since the inception in 2007, Lilith Performance Studio has created over 50 large-scale solo commissions and been engaged in numerous inspiring collaborations and curator missions worldwide.
Lilith celebrated this with a series of unique dinner performances by 5 beloved artists from Lilith’s past.
The Icelandic Love Corporation hosted the finals of Lilith’s 10th anniversary with a ceremonial tribute to the unknown and the unborn.
“Follow the moon, follow the tide, follow your heart!”
YOU ARE INVITED – Baby Shower for Mary was a ceremonial celebration to the unknown and the unborn. A celebration for Mary: the feminist, the rebel, the star of the ocean,
the strong current that leads the way to change.
The two Madams, Jónsdóttir and Sigurðardóttir came from the Icelandic countryside, equipped with identical tight hair buns and camouflage-patterned folk costumes, and guided the audience through various ceremonial moments and rituals during the evening’s two-hour tribute of Maria.
Initially, the guests were divided into various famous families: Jacksons, Beckhams, Kennedy and Kardashians. Together the performed sing-along, reflected on the name Mary, kneaded dough, got blessed, and gave their brought offerings and enjoyed the live opera piece Aqua Maria. In the end they consumed different varieties of Bloody Marys and cinnamon buns to the tones of Enter Sandman.
The art collective The Icelandic Love Corporation has actively and successfully worked in the field of visual art, both at home and abroad, using nearly all possible media – including performance, video, photography, and installation – the ILC confronts the seriousness of the world with works that blend playfulness, humor and spectacle with refreshing genuineness and subtle social critique that often incorporates ideas of traditional femininity, with feministic approach.
In the large-scale performance piece Think Less – Feel More 2011, the ILC wove the whole studio in big web made of 3000 nylons, like a huge 3-D painting. After being locked inside a dark container the audience was let out, and dressed in black helmets. Then they were ushered into the web of nylons where a popcorn fragrant shamanistic ritual was performed.
